personality
serious and calculating, Qestra runs cold.
she's high-strung and quick to judge, especially to those she can see herself in. she's prone to challenging such individuals, either intellectually or physically... and often to no one's knowledge but her own.
her superiority is overcompensation that lacks perspective -- her lifespan is significantly longer than those of other races, so she could afford to spend lots of time making small steps. factually, she knows this, but cognitively, she doesn't like to acknowledge it. it's better if she can convince herself she's just better than everyone... in at least one way.
her initial outlook tends to lean towards the pessimistic, and as such, she has few words for strangers. despite this, her curiosity is easily piqued, though some find her uncomfortable to converse with due to her intense swings in focus once engaged.
she's fastidious about physical strength, and enjoys the chance to throw her weight around.

background 1/3
Qestra was always one of the hardiest children in the village. her little brother was very much not so; his gender reveal party sucked because they all agreed he wouldn't do well outside the village. Qestra caught her grandmother leaving the forest with him and demanded to come along, so she did. she almost resents her grandmother for opening the decision up, since she misses her home and is now technically exiled, but knows it's silly.
they settled in Gridania, a poor facsimile of their home but familiar nonetheless. grandma picked out names for them but she refused to take them -- she is Qestra, and she is proud of her heritage, even though other viera may look down on her for her decision.
she capitalized on her species' status symbol to help support the family. she hated every second of being used as reputation fodder, but it paid really well, so she attended as many fancy gatherings as she was asked.

background 2/3
quickly becoming tired of amounting to naught more than a baron's prop, she began to find solace in the library. so much so that once her brother got old enough to take over as an income-gatherer, Qestra mobilized a grift.
she cobbled together enough knowledge to make it through Gridanian schooling, then learned to, ahem, embellish these qualifications. she reconnected with a former employer who just so happened to have the know-how, and from them, she picked up the aristocrat's etiquette to embody her new record.
it paid off, and she made it into Old Sharlayan. she was a fish out of water, and they were everything about the upper crust she hated... but they were also really, really familiar. as they started to judge more and more on pure merit as the years went by, she began to feel at home in all the most irritating ways. finding herself well capable of keeping up with the mental demands, she finally came out of her shell a bit.
she worked herself to the bone, determined to both legitimize her qualifications and to show up everyone else.

background 3/3
the Calamity happened while she was abroad. the home she returned to was altered, but she found passion in the new wealth of unstudied interactions between aether and nature.
her affiliation with the Wolves' Den began by accident. on a research trip to Limsa, some funnyman tricked her into visiting, but unfortunately for them, she had a lot of suppressed rage. her newfound affinity for combat put her at odds with the culture of Sharlayan, and most associates to learn of such became uncomfortable with her at best.
even while actively attending to her fieldwork, she clawed her way to attention in the Feast circuit. she was taken on by a small, highly elite team, and became an integral cog for them for years. however, one season she was seen with a different team, and then another the next; nowadays, Qestra is rarely seen with the same group twice. matches between her new, fleeting teams and her old pack seem to indicate bad blood -- at least to those who know to look.
between Feast seasons, Qestra wanders, seemingly devoid of the fastidiousness that characterized her youth. when asked her intentions, she often replies with a shrug and a pointed comment. she seems to be heartbroken, or perhaps grieving...

hooks
Wolves' Den Mainstay
Qestra may be vaguely familiar to some passersby...
Aristocratic Experience
Qestra watches the lords and ladies with disdain, but her sitting posture is reminiscent of theirs. But she's also kinda shabby...
Sharlayan Education
Qestra looks a little unfriendly, but she carries herself like a scholar, and is an arcanist. Maybe she can answer that burning question...
Unnerving Adulation
Qestra spent a lot of time being used as a trophy or a prop. She may have a bit of a chip on her shoulder re: staring...

hey! i'm coffee. this is my first venture into these spaces in ffxiv!
(please be gentle.) i'm a lesbian in her early 20s.

i get really enthusiastic and tend to type a lot of introspective nonsense, and i eat up body language and nonverbal cues for breakfast. qestra being a quiet character kinda aggravates this; if i'm speaking as her in clipped sentences, it's her, not me, i promise! that said i won't leave anyone hanging/struggling to drive the rp. she just might take some prodding to open up...
please no ERP/M/etc out of nowhere. i'm comfortable only if there's a strong narrative reason for it -- and as long as we have a rapport first!
qestra was made to be a shard of hythlodaeus, but i'm too lazy to develop that story, so here she is. if it could be relevant to your character, please let me know! by default, i'll assume folks prefer more distance from msq.
